No, individual profiles cannot be stored at this time. Due to space limitations and security concerns, virtual desktops are discarded after each VDI virtual session ends.
To ensure your work is retained after you log off the virtual machine, please save your work to the U: drive rather than the virtual desktop itself (the C: drive). Also, please save frequently—at least every 25 minutes or so—because your session will time out or log you off automatically after 2 hours of inactivity. Make sure you save your work frequently to avoid losing it!
- Double click MappingHomeDrive icon from desktop to enable your U: drive.
- Go to HQ_Public and find your U: drive.
In general, printing to a local printer from the VDI is unsupported. Because of the vast number of printers in the market, it is not feasible for the VDI to work with every type of printer.
Anything you save on the VDI virtual machine during your session will be lost when you log off, so you should always be sure to save your work to U: drive before you log off.
Troubleshooting VDI Problems (5)
- Make sure you are connecting with the latest VDI client and connection server name.
- You may need to (re)download and (re)install the latest VMWare View client for your operating system, and you may need to uninstall the old client version first because if you do not, you may have trouble accessing your local drives while logged into the VDI.
- Your connection server name should be set correctly

- If you are receiving an error message that says “Unknown user name or bad password”
- Be sure your user name and password are correct.
- Be sure you are selecting Correct Domain when you logging in.
- If this fails, please contact IT Global Service Desk, call #36500 from your local site to reset password.
- If you are receiving an error message that says “Connect desktop failed” or “The display protocol for this desktop is currently busy processing a request. Please contact your system administrator, “
- If you are receiving an error message that says “You are not authorized to use this”
- Your Mobile application is expired or not effective yet
- Please contact the IT Global Service Desk to issue IT request.
- If you are receiving an error message that says “The desktop source for this desktop are not responding, Please try connecting to this desktop again later, or contact your system administrator.”
- Check that your session has not timed out.
- The session timeout length is 2hours, so make sure you save your work frequently.
- Check that you aren’t trying to access the VDI during a downtime. Advance notice will be provided before planned downtimes for maintenance. You may need to check Bulletin Board System in case of an unplanned downtime. Or, just wait and try again later.
- In the connection window when you are first connecting to the VDI, click on the white, downward-facing, triangular arrow to the right of Mxx_Public.
- In the dropdown, select “Display Protocol.”
- Select Microsoft RDP or PCoIP. Ensure RDP is selected if you can’t access VDI via PCoIP.
- Select Connect.
Your network environment has some limit by ISP or not stable, please switch protocol to RDP (see also how to switch your connection between RDP and PCoIP) than try again. If this doesn’t fix it, contact IT Global Service Desk, call #36500 from your local site.
The VDI & Your Local Computer (4)
No, you can’t access your local drive while using the VDI.
No. This feature is not currently supported. But you can change the window size.
Yes, you can successfully copy and paste from local to VDI, but you cannot copy and paste from VDI to local.
Your remote desktop connection is full screen by default. To change this so you can see your local computer too:
- On a Windows computer:
- Simply double-click on the toolbar at the top of the screen that says the name of the VDI build, which will shrink the virtual desktop window so you can access your own computer.
- You can then drag the VDI’s virtual desktop window to your desired size.
- Or, you can just press the Windows key on your keyboard, next to the left Control key, which will also bring your own computer desktop to the front and minimize your virtual session. (Repeat to switch back.)
- On a Mac: Go under View in the toolbar at the top and select Full Screen.

MediaTek’s staff, consultant, outsourcing contractors, or vendor are able to use VDI.
But you have to apply Mobile service first.
2.What is the difference between the RDP and PCoIP protocols in VDI? Why do I choose one over the other?
The primary advantage of PCoIP is speed and display quality. The primary advantage of RDP is that common protocol on some restrict network is available. Neither is “better”; they are just different:
- Use PCoIP if any of the following are true for you:
- You want to display better quality graphics, video, and sound.
- If bandwidth is not a problem because you are on a high-speed connection.
- Use RDP if any of the following are true for you:
- You don’t know your network quality, set RDP is better than PCoIP
- If graphics, video, and sound quality are not an issue.
- If you have limited bandwidth because you are on dial-up or a slow DSL connection.
You can access the software you need via VDI from home, or from anywhere else with internet connection!
